‘P-Valley’ Star J. Alphonse Nicholson Apologizes After Receiving Backlash For Skit: You Can’t Make Fun Of Ignorance [VIDEO]
Actor J. Alphonse Nicholson has publicly apologized to his fans and supporters following a recent controversial skit he took part in.
During a recent appearance on “New Rory and Mal,” rising star J. Alphonse Nicholson spoke on his highly talked about role on Starz hit series “P-Valley,” his personal life, upcoming roles, and more.
As you may already know, J. Alphonse Nicholson’s breakout role as Lil Murda had viewers raving about the strip club series. As much praise as Nicholson received for portraying the talented, closeted rapper, he was equally met with criticism from viewers who say the show was doing too much as his character struggled with his sexuality.
Following his interview, the actor says he was approached to participate in a skit to make fun of the ignorance and rumors put upon him for his portrayal of Lil Murda. In the skit, Nicholson can be seen smoking marijuana when he proceeds to pass the blunt to show hosts Rory and Mal. The hosts dodge smoking after the Lil Murda star seemingly due to his intimate scenes with other men on the Starz drama.

On Friday (September 9), Nicholson took to his official Twitter account to address the skit. The entertainer posted a video in response to a social media user asking him why he did the skit. He explained,
“The skit I was told was to be done to make fun of the rumors and the ignorance that people surround myself, and the character, and me having my own strain, and people maybe not wanting to smoke with me because of the character that I play on Lil Murda. And so we’re picking fun at the ignorance and the ignorance of those people that make fun and create those situations.”
Nicholson continued,
“That skit was supposed to bring a certain amount of attention to the interview. And I believe it’s doing the exact opposite. It’s not really showing the light and the love that was shown in that interview.”
The superstar shared,
“We have learned very quickly that ignorance is ignorance. You can’t make fun of ignorance. It’s just ignorant. And so, I wish I would’ve stuck with my first instinct and not have done the skit.”
Nicholson added,
“It’s being taken down immediately on all platforms. We have reached out to people to make sure that we’re getting it taken down. And once again, I apologize for offending anyone who watched that video, who watched that skit and felt like it was inappropriate and offensive — especially to my loved ones and my family in the LGBTQ community. I apologize sincerely, and we’re taking care of it.”
