Dempsey spoke to Variety about his role in the upcoming film. “I’ve been talking to the director [Adam Shankman]. The story is getting better and better. There’s a great cast coming together. And the musical numbers, I get to sing and dance,” he said. “To work with everybody again after 14 years is just really exciting. We need some escapism right now. We need those romantic comedies and those musicals to get people out of the doldrums that we’re in.”
Adam Shankman is set to direct the sequel.
Hairspray director Adam Shankman will come back to direct, along with Brigette Hales is the writer for the sequel. Adams will serve as a producer with Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld. The film will also feature songs from Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, who received three Oscar nominations for Enchanted.

Josephson also spoke about his excitement about the sequel. “I guess dreams do come true…producing ‘Enchanted’ was the most rewarding film experience I’ve ever had. I’m so excited for Adam Shankman to begin filming ‘Disenchanted,'” he said. “I want to thank everyone at Disney for supporting us all the way. Very special thanks to Amy Adams for deciding to play ‘Giselle,’ the character she created again! And we are so fortunate to have this incredible cast!”
Fans can expect a musical number from Patrick Dempsey
In his Variety interview, Dempsey said, “I will be singing for the first time. I’ve never ever sung publicly — for a reason. So bear with me. I hope the fans embrace it.” Dempsey continued, “But they’ve set me up for success, and the lyrics are really fun. The numbers have really great choreography. And the premise is going to be interesting.”
Disenchanted is set years after the end of the original film.
An official description of the plot, per Disney, says, “Disenchanted features the much-anticipated return of Giselle, the princess from the fairy tale world of Andalasia banished to Manhattan who found her real Princess Charming in divorce lawyer Robert Philip. 15 years later, Giselle moves to the suburb of Monroeville with Robert and their teenage daughter Morgan, where she must juggle the challenges that come with a new home and discover what happily ever after truly means to her and her new family.”
Production has started.
According to Irish Press, Disenchanted started production in Ireland. The sequel will transform Wicklow Village in Enniskerry into a Disney wonderland.

Amy Adams says expect more musical numbers
During an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Adams says that the musical set pieces for the sequel have outpaced the original—and she is feelings a bit outpaced herself.
There’s a lot more singing and a lot more dancing which was humbling. The last time I really danced as much as I’m required to dance in this, I was in my 20s and now I’m not in my 20s. It feels different in your 40s. In my heart, I look like I’m in my 20s when I’m dancing, and then I would watch playback and be like, ‘Whoa, that’s not the same.’”
