Nicola Coughlan is no stranger to hair makeovers for a role. For Penelope in Bridgerton, she swapped her blonde locks for fiery red ringlets, while for the Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls, her light blonde hair was cut into a grown-out bob complete with a heavy blunt fringe. But when Nicola Coughlan walked the red carpet at London’s Outernet for the GLAMOUR Women of The Year Awards 2022, in partnership with Samsung, it was her brand new strawberry blonde bob that captured our attention.
Beauty insiders have dubbed strawberry blonde as the successor to pumpkin spice this season. And TikTok users would seem to agree, as the phrase “strawberry blonde hair for fall 2022” has had over 22 million views. Equal parts red and blonde, with its gold and copper tones, strawberry blonde is a flattering hair colour against all skin tones, creating a softer contrast, brightening facial features and making blue eyes, like Nicola’s, pop.
Nicola debuted her strawberry blonde locks on Instagram a few weeks ago, captioning her post “Strawberry blonde for spooky season”. She credits colourist Jason Hogan at Josh Wood for her new hue and hair stylist Pete Burkill for the striking cut, which falls in longer face-framing layers at the front.

For tonight’s event, Nicola opted for a sleeker style, with an on-trend side parting, shiny straight mid-lengths, and flicked-out ends.
For maximum impact and to create a smouldering feel, Nicola paired her new ‘do with the Noughties waterline eyeliner trend – that is, rimming your waterline and upper lashline with black eyeliner for a next-level smudgy, smoky effect. Paired with peach lipstick, Nicola delivered a masterclass in red carpet-glamour.
